World of Warcraft Expansion List

Warcraft is one of the most popular, well-played and most enjoyed by numerous gamers. This game was first launched on the market in 2004. After all the success that Warcraft has experienced, Warcraft III – The Frozen Throne which is a turning point of bringing the MMORPG genre type of game into the mainstream spotlight. Yes, World of Warcraft has become a phenomenon in the gaming world. With its huge success, this game has expanded and has released 8 versions or expansions.
In this article, we shall look into and provide an overview on the expansions of World of Warcraft.
World of Warcraft Expansion List
Burning Crusade
The Burning Crusade is the first expansion of World of Warcraft. It has became very famous for its mechanics and its lore standpoint. In this expansion you will be able to experience two races which are the Draenei and Blood Elves. Both races have their own starting zones which leads to the world of Azeroth. Though this is the case, the game does not only focuses on Azeroth but also in Outland which is also in Warcraft III – The Frozen Throne.
It has an addition of flying mounts which could be used in Outland only. Moreover, it is cheaper which made it more accessible to more players. It also has resilience stat which is designed to help PvP combat.
Wrath of the Lich King
This expansion is known as the second expansion which focuses on Arthas. Arthas is anti-hero who became the newly crowned Lich King at the end of the Frozen Throne. In this expansion, you will be able to see a new continent which is the North-end to Azeroth. This place is pretty much like the Outland. It is snowy too. Though there are no new races, a new hero was added in the form of Death Knight. The new hero starts at level 55 and has its own starting zone in eastern Lordaeron. The Death Knight role could do the DPS roles which has become more popular.
Its level cap has increased by ten which means it would jump from 70 to 80. The most prominent addition in this expansion is the new primary profession of Inscription. This would allow its players to create special glyphs which could improve or alter abilities after inscribing a glyph.
Cataclysm
This expansion is well-known for changing the face of the in-game world of Azeroth and the whole game. In this game, there were some Warcraft’s villains and Deathwing who were up for the chopping block. In this expansion there are new races and they are Worgen and Goblins. New zones and two new battlegrounds were introduced including PvP area of Tol Barad.
The level cap of this expansion has increased by five levels which makes at a maximum level of 85. Moreover, all its classes were redesigned and rebalanced.
Mists of Pandaria
Mists of Pandaria is the fourth expansion of World of Warcrafts. Unfortunately, this expansion is not as popular and is not as widely received or accepted by fans compared to the other expansions. It comes with a new continent named Pandaria and it focuses on exploration of mystical island.
Its level capped has increased by five which means it has a maximum level of 90 as its new ceiling. In this expansion, you will encounter the Pandaren which is a neutral race. Through it, you will be able to either join the Alliance or the Horde.
In this expansion, you will also find the addition of first new class since WotLK which is the Monk. The Monk is a hybrid class which could do the roles of tank, healer or DPS while using light armor. Moreover, in this expansion, scenarios- small dungeons were introduced.
Warlords of Draenor
In this expansion, time traveling was introduced in terms of having an alternate timeline. In this game, you will be able to experience the pivotal moment of determining the fate of Orchish Horde back in the homeworld of Draenor. This game focuses on the alternate way which history could have been played out if the orcs were not able to make a covenant with Mannoroth. This means that Garroush Hellscream could influence the game. The maximum level of this game is at 100.
This expansion has also introduced the Group Finder which is considered as a good group finding tool for PvP and PvE. It has also changed the game with WoD to Garrisons and graphics updates.
Legion
This expansion has been released in August 2016. This expansion follows the events of Warlords of Draenor, alternate-reality Gul’dan. The focus on this game is the big bad, Sargeras. It has also introduced new collection of zones to Azeroth, the Broken Isles.
Its level cap is at the maximum level of 110. Second-ever hero class was introduced which is the Demon Hunter. It is a new class which is a hybrid which focuses on DPS or tanking. This is available for every race but it is only night elves and blood elves which could become Demon Hunters. Class Orders were also introduced in this expansion. Moreover, Legion is considered as heavily customizable artifact weapons.
Battle for Azeroth
This expansion focuses on the war between the Alliance and the Horde. It comes with eight new races. It also has two new landmasses to Azeroth which are Kul Tiras and Zandalar. Its level cap was raised from 110 to maximum of 120. Island expeditions were also introduced in this expansion.
Shadowlands
Shadowlands focuses on the Warcraft universe’s afterlife. It also features one of the biggest overhauls and it has introduced the first level squish which brings the maximum level down to 60. This expansion focuses on the Covenant system – Necrolord, Venthyr, Kyrianor and Night Fae.
