Overwatch 2: Characters Locked Bug

Some players have reported that they experience characters locked bug when playing Overwatched 2. If you are experiencing this, do not worry as you are not alone and you did not do anything wrong to have caused this issue. In fact, the main cause of the mentioned issue is due to a problem with the servers of the game. It confuses you new account with an old account which would lead to all of your hero characters gets locked.

What is Characters Locked Bug

If you just opened your Overwatch 2 and see that more than half of your characters are not accessible, do not worry as you are not alone. In fact, after the game has been released, many gamers have experienced this issue.

Unfortunately, the bug would lock the heroes that you have unlocked while playing the game. This means, only 13 heroes which are by default included in the beginning of the game. Though this is the case, there have been reports that characters which could be purchased such as Kiriko, Junker Queen and Sojourn could still be used.

How to Check If The Characters Locked Bug Is Affecting You

You would notice immediately if you are experiencing the mentioned issue as all the characters that you have unlocked could no longer be used. Though this is the case, as mentioned earlier, you would still be able to use the 13 starter default heroes. To check if the characters are locked.

Launch Overwatch 2
Open the hero gallery
Do not enter the queues for competitive plays
Heroes are affected by the bug will have small lock symbol at the bottom right of the portraits.

How to Fix the Characters Locked Bug in Overwatch 2?

Restart the Game

If you have closed the game, restart it.
If the game is not closed, close it
Launch the Task Manager – press Ctrl+Shift +Esc
Look for the tasks which are associated with Overwatch 2. Ensure you click on More Details at the bottom left
Click on Overwatch 2 task
Click End task
Launch Overwatch 2 again and go to the Hero Gallery

Log Back Into Your Blizzard Account

Go to home page of Battle.net
Click on your profile
Click log out
Once you have logged out of your account, log in screen will appear
Enter your email address and password.
Select Keep me Logged in

Change Your Region

Launch Battle.net desktop application
Click on Overwatch 2
Go to the global icon and click on it
Select any region you would like to switch to
Restart your game if the region does not change

Is The Overwatch 2 Characters Locked Bug Fixed?

Unfortunately, the bug still has not been officially fixed. Though this is the case, developers of the game has acknowledge this bug. According to official reports, servers are to keep track of the players progress which unfortunately where the issue has been happening.

With this bug, fortunately, the game is still playable. Developers of the game also mentioned that they are finding solutions to resolve the mentioned issue.
