What FPS Should You Have in a Game?

30 FPS – This is the most common frame rate in most of gaming consoles. It is, in fact, the bare minimum requirement for you to be able to play your favorite game. Take in mind, however, that there could be instances when your game could stutter when your FPS drops to below 20 FPS.
60 FPS – This is the ideal frame rate. It allows you to play optimized games. However, if you are planning to play AAA games, you might have to tweak your settings.
120 FPS – This allows you to play high-end games. Take in mind that you will have to connect to at least 144Hz refresh rate monitor.
240 FPS – This frame rate is something you would wish to achieve. It could be used on 240 Hz refresh rate monitors. This type of frame rate is liked by a few number of gamers only.

What is the Difference Between Frame Rates?

As mentioned earlier, FPS means the number of frames could be displayed on your screen per second. The more frames that could be displayed the smoother and the more responsive your images could appear.

Hence, if you are watching something that could only show 1 FPS, you will be watching something that looks like a slide show rather than something that is interactive experience which you would wish to have when you are playing games on your console.

Is it advantageous to have high FPS?

Is Higher FPS Better?

In most cases higher FPS is said to be better. However, in reality, this is not always the case. There are some instances when lower FPS is better and here are some of the reasons.

Smoothness – lower FPS is better when your PC is struggling to maintain a steady frame rate. Hence, it would be more enjoyable to have 30 FPS.
Immersion – Lower FPS becomes better because there are movies that are filmed at 24 FPS which means 30 FPS could provide you a more cinematic feel.
