How to View Dash Cam Footage in 7 Quick and Easy Steps

How to View Dash Cam Footage

Remove the SD Card from the Dash Cam

Your dash cam should have a slot where you will find your SD card. Modern dash cams would usually only work with Micro-SD cards. For you to be able to remove your SD card, you will have to push on card. Once you hear a release click, you will then be able to pull the card from its slot.

Put the Micro SD Card into an SD Card Adapter

For PCs that do not have any slots for Micro SD card, you will have to get an SD card adapter. Do not worry as they are affordable and easy to find. Just insert you Micro SD card into the card adapter and once you hear a click, you would know that the card is in place.

Insert SD Card Adapter into Your PC

If your PC or laptop comes with an SD card slot, you would notice it as a thin slot that slides. For PCs, you could find this underneath or at the back of your PC. Insert the card until the card is settled in its place.

Locate the Card on Your PC

  • Open your file explorer
  • Click This PC
  • Select Devices and Drivers
  • Select SD Card Driver
  • Press Enter

Locate the Video Files

Once you have opened your SD card on your PC or laptop, you will find all of your recorded and stored video files. The files would usually be organized according to the date that they were recorded.

Copy the Video Files Across to Your PC

  • Create new folder on your desktop
  • Return to SD card window
  • Select all the videos which you would want to copy to your computer
  • Copy the videos and drag it to your computer and unto your new folder.

View to Video Footage

You could use any media player for you to video footage. Just click on the video you would like to watch and you are good to go.

How to Recover Dash Cam Footage

There are some programs and software which could recover deleted footage. However, not all of them are free. One program which we highly recommend is Recuva. Keep in mind that these type of apps could only work if you have not re-written the file.

How long do dash cameras record for?

This would depend if your cam is battery operated and on how huge your storage space of your SD card.

How Many Hours Can 16GB Hold

Usually you could record about 2 hours of video at 1080p at 30fps.
