Just like in any game, Pokemon Go also has difficult to defeat type of opponents. In fact, it has been reported that the two of the hardest opponents that you could encounter in Pokemon Go are Team Go Rocket Boss Giovanni and his Shadow Mewtwo. Learning what their weaknesses are would definitely provide you a better and exciting gameplay.
To get to the boss Giovanni, you will need to go through Arlo, Sierra, Cliff and a lot of Grunts. Though you have surpassed a lot of obstacles to get to Giovanni, keep in mind that the boss is not easy to defeat. Hence, for you to be able to get pass through the Team Go Rocket Boss, you will have to plan ahead.
You will also have to go and battle with the Hoenn region’s Legendary duo Latios and Latios for you to reach Giovanni’s Shadow Mewtwo who is his lineup. In this article, we shall list down his roster, weaknesses and best counters.
November of 2022, Giovanni’s Pokemon lineup has changed during the Team Go Rocket Takeover event. One of the most noticeable changes is that Shadow Mewtwo has been added to his team.
As mentioned earlier, defeating Pokemon’s Team Go Rocket boss, Giovanni is difficult to defeat and for you to stand a chance to defeat it, you will have to learn the best counters to be able to target his roster’s weaknesses and for you to be able to deliver the final attack.
Giovanni would definitely throw his signature Pokemon – Persian. This Pokemon is one of his current lineup and the second Pokemon that he would throw would be random and the last one that you will have to defeat would be Shadow Mewtwo.
Persian is a normal and usual type of Pokemon. It is actually weak in terms of fighting attacks. Though that is the case, Persian is resistant to Ghost-type attacks. With this information, it would surely make it easier for you as to which Pokemon you would need to choose and use.

Giovanni is much more difficult to defeat compared to the Rocket Grunts and Leaders. His lineup would definitely affect your health bar quickly especially if you do not have the right counters. Do not worry as you could rematch the boss immediately. You could also change your roster to defeat him. If you have the right counters for his lineup, then, you would definitely beat and defeat him.
If you wish to defeat Giovanni, it is important that you have the right team. We highly recommend that you set your team including Conkeldurr, Kyogre and Hydreigon.
Conkeldurr has a strong fighting-type of Pokemon. It will help you be able to defeat Giovanni’s Phase 1 – Persian. Kyogre is powerful enough to win over three of Giovanni’s phase 2 potential Pokemons. Hydreigon could defeat Shadow Mewtwo as Hydreigon is a strong dark and ghost type.
There are other good options as well such as Drakrai, Hoopa and Chandelure.
