Windows: Bring Off-Screen Window Back onto Screen

If you are a windows user, for sure you would have encountered different errors. One of the most common errors is that the current window that you have has fallen completely off your screen. Though you could bring this back by right clicking the window on your taskbar and maximizing it, you would no longer be able to restore your window to where you could move it around with your mouse. If you have encountered this error, do not worry, there is a way to solve this issue. Through this article, we shall feature different ways you could do and follow for you to solve the mentioned issue and error. 

First Resolution Method or Trick

For Windows 10 and 8

  • Right click the blank area of your Desktop
  • Select Display settings
  • Select Advanced display settings
  • Change your resolution to another value
  • Click Apply
  • Check if you could see the window on your screen
  • Change your resolution back to your previous value
  • Select ok

For Windows 7

  • Right click the blank area of your Desktop
  • Select screen resolution
  • Change your resolution to another value
  • Click apply
  • Check if you could now see your window on the screen
  • Change your resolution back to your previous value
  • Select ok

2nd Resolution Method or Trick – Show Desktop Toggle

  • Hold down the Windows Key and the letter D.
  • Repeat the mentioned steps until you see your window reappears.
  • You could also right-click the blank area of the taskbar, then, select Show desktop and repeat.

3rd Resolution Method or Trick

  • Select the program on the task bar
  • Hold the Window Key + Left Arrow or Right Arrow. Do this repeatedly until you see the window back

4th Resolution Method or Trick

For Windows 10, 8, 7 and Vista

  • Hold Shift key while right clicking the program on the taskbar
  • Select move
  • (for Windows XP) – right click the program on the task bar and select move. You could also select Restore then select Move.
  • Using your mouse or arrow keys, move your window back to your screen.

5th Resolution Method or Trick – Cascade Windows

  • Right click the blank area on your taskbar
  • Select Cascade windows

6th Resolution Method or Trick – Maximize

There are times when an app gets stuck and you cannot redraw it onto the Window. You could solve this by:

  • Hold Shift + right click on the program icon on the taskbar
  • Select maximize

FAQ

How do I prevent application from starting off the screen every time I launch it?

This issue would be solved if you exit the application properly while it is on your screen. Once you exited properly the application, uninstall and reinstall it. If not, you could also try to right click the icon of the application. Then select properties. Go to the Shortcut tab and then change the run setting to maximized and click Ok and you are good to go.
